Carrousel Tour to Mansfield Ohio

Saturday, June 14, 2008

Hosted by: Scott & Mary Miller

Join us on Saturday, June 14th, for a back roads tour to the historic “Carrousel District” in Mansfield, OH.  In 1991, the “Carrousel District” became the home to the first new, hand-carved wooden carrousel built in the USA since 1930.  This breathtaking indoor carrousel has 52 wooden animals and two chariots.  We will also visit “Carrousel Magic” and see skilled craftsman use time-honored techniques of carving, finishing and painting to transform hardwood blocks into prancing ponies and magical menagerie figures.

After touring the “Carrousel District”, we will proceed to the “Kingwood Center”.  Originally the private estate of Charles King, Kingwood Center is a 47 acre display garden and cultural center open to the public since 1953.  The house was built in 1926, and Mr. King lived on the estate until his death in 1952.  Mr. King began working for the Ohio Brass Company, as an electrical engineer, in 1893 and became the President and Chairman of the Board.  Kingwood Center is a tribute to a man who enjoyed sharing his estate, a practice he continues over a half a century after his death.

Admission to Carrousel Magic is $5 per person and rides at Carrousel Park are .75 each or 3 / $2.00.  Admission to the Kingwood Center is free.

We will then depart Mansfield for a back roads drive to Coshocton, OH and dinner at Raven’s Glenn Winery and Restaurant.  There we will enjoy Italian cuisine and a wine tasting bar along with their gift shop.  Dinners range from $10 to 20, and you will be ordering off their regular dinner menu.
