Test Drive - 2007 MX-5 w/Retractable Hard Top

Test of the Month

Well I did it, I gave in and ordered a 2007 Stormy Blue MX-5 (Miata) PRHT (Power Retractable Hard Top) to join my Miata collection. It took a while to arrive but it was worth waiting for, it was the Friday after our meeting was the day that it finally arrived and I was excited to take delivery of it at last. And what sweet little car this is too, just like the red car that Brad demonstrated for us at Park Mazda, my new car has a hard top that folds under a hard tonneau cover, exposing the tan leather interior with it's carpeting and seat belts.

Dream along with me as we open the door, drop the sun visor and get ready to drive off into the sunset on a warm summer's evening (remember summer?). When we return from our drive into the sunset it's time to lift the hood, be sure to use the wire prop rod to support the hood and then carefully inspect everything located in the engine compartment, then let's head back to the fully carpeted and lined trunk to remove any goodies that may have been stashed back there on our journey into that sunset. By now it's getting late in the evening and it's time to put the hard top back up, run a polishing rag over the fine paint to remove those tell-tale finger prints and park for the night back in the display case with the rest of the collection.
Yes this is a 1:18 scale model built by Auto Art, not a real 1:1 car, and it is auto art too. Everything is here on this die-cast metal model, the interior and trunk carpet, cloth seat belts, the four wheel disk brakes behind perfectly cast ten spoke alloy wheels, gem like tail lights and a paint job that Mazda should be jealous of. These models, I can't bring myself to call these finely crafted cars "toys", are slowly becoming available and can be purchased in silver or black as well as the Stormy Blue that mine is painted, the Stormy Blue can also be ordered as a right hand drive car. The soft top car is not offered unfortunately. I ordered mine online from Speed Nation that sells "Gifts for Car Nuts" of all kinds, you should at least visit their web site and check out some of the neat stuff they've got for sale, be prepared to stay for a while. http://www.speednation.com/store/product3063.html
If you enjoy toys, full size or to scale, this is one of the best.
